Well, I did just that in 2011 when I took redundancy, giving me the opportunity to start working on my own business and to take time for me! A lot of healing was needed, I had a rough couple of years and just didn't seem to be making progress mentally. So I turned left.
I took the chance and took the time to heal and learn. One of the lessons I learned was that a business does not happen overnight. No-one was banging down my door demanding cushions, doorstops, aprons and so on. But, I have persevered and think I have paid my dues. I did have to start working again to make sure that we could feed ourselves, that the kids had nice clothes to wear and that we had a roof over our heads.
I could have taken the decision to work in finance again, but I took another left and was lucky to secure a position working in a Primary school. Less money (oh so much less!), but shorter hours and school holidays. This has allowed me to continue with my dream.
The last couple of fairs have been somewhat disappointing, don't get me wrong the people I have the opportunity to meet is amazing, but again the sales are not there. It has been a bit disheartening to say the least, and at times I have wanted to through the towel (cushion) in. But wait, is there a glimmer of light and something that has been right under my nose?
The orders of Memory Bunny's has been picking up, there could be something in this after all. I so enjoy doing this and working with you to create something unique and meaningful, and being able to help out a couple of charities is a bonus.
So guess what, I am taking another left. I will now be expanding what I can offer in the way of memories for you. This maybe a bunny/cat/dog/bear, or a patchwork cushion or quilt, what about some personalised bunting? This is where I will now be concentrating the business. I will scale down, dramatically, the number of craft fairs I will be at.
To help me get there I need you lovely people to spread the word, I will push as much as I can on social media, but word of mouth is so much stronger.
I am really excited about this, and thankfully have a very supportive husband and children backing me all the way.
So....think about it left can be a good thing. Drop by, have some tea and cake and let me know if I can help with your memories. It doesn't just have to be for a baby!
